Inventory Clerk

Brownsville, TX

 

Compensation Includes

  • Starting pay rate of $18-22/hour

Overview

Performs detailed clerical work involving purchasing, receiving, storing, stocking and inventory of items to optimize stock levels.  Researches and interfaces with vendors to source parts, equipment, and services.  Diplomatically and efficiently communicates with vendors and staff members.

 

Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities

  • Observes and analyzes rate of usage of different parts, lead time for ordering and receiving parts and forecasting ordering and cataloging activity
  • Sets ordering points and quantities for usage and inventory management
  • Supports maintenance department by identifying inventory control levels necessary to ensure adequate supplies of parts
  • Organizes and maintains parts storage areas
  • Unpacks and stores materials, supplies, parts, tools and equipment in proper location
  • Receives and inspects materials for completeness of order and purchase order conformity; inspects received materials for damage, wear or defect
  • Resolves any discrepancies with orders and completes necessary paperwork to process or return supplies.
  • Orders and prepares requisitions to maintain proper levels of supplies and tracks maintenance; closes out purchase orders in timely manner
  • Suggests ordering schedules based on usage rate, storage space, and delivery time.
  • Maintains files on source of product information with back-up suppliers when needed.
  • Conducts periodic physical inventory using manual and computer-generated reports to reconcile inventory supplies; Analyze discrepancies and research issues
  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly fashion
  • Prepares spend reports, accrual reports, and other ordering functions for the DOE; ensures spend is within budget; communicates budget concerns with Plant Engineer/Plant Manager as needed
  • Utilize computerized database to maintain storeroom inventory at levels adequate for the maintenance of the fleet
  • Receive parts, unload trucks and shelve received parts, materials and supplies
  • Manage vendors to achieve the lowest possible cost and the highest quality products
  • Dispense parts to mechanics as needed for repairs
  • Researches, sources and analyzes part specifications to ensure it meets requirements. Works with Maintenance team to review requirements and recommendations
  • Places purchase orders for needed parts and equipment through company’s ERP system
  • Communicates with suppliers, both verbally and in writing, on matters relating to supplies
  • Completes all required paperwork on a timely basis, maintains active files and records history, and prepares necessary reports
  • Lead housekeeping efforts within area of responsibility
  • Participates on continuous improvement teams and initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience as a parts/purchasing clerk preferred
  • Strong computer and math skills; experience with inventory systems preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others and work well within a team environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required
  • Work overtime, weekends, holidays as required
  • Satisfactorily complete training courses as determined by management
